Ethiopia: Roof of Africa
For those intrepid travelers looking for something a little different, Ethiopia has much to offer. As the only country in Africa never colonized, much of what you encounter is uniquely Ethiopian. Strong influences from ancient cultures are abound, especially in the historic towns found throughout the north. Traditional tribal cultures can be encountered in Ethiopia's more remote regions, like the hot lowland southwest.
A land of lush mountain landscapes, numerous endemic species are found in Ethiopia's spectacular Simien and Bale Mountain National Parks. Often referred to as the Roof of Africa, it has the largest contiguous region of highlands on the continent. Paired with the bustling capital of Addis Ababa, often called the Capital of Africa, travelers to Ethiopia are in for a rare treat.
About Ponte Travels
Responsible tourism seeks to benefit local economies in sustainable ways, which is why we actively seek out locally owned hotels, eco-lodges, home-stays and service providers that share our goals. In addition, we make a donation from every tour to carefully selected NGOs who are working to improve the health and education of the world's neediest people.
Heather Murchison, co-founder and managing director of Ponte Travels, was born in Germany, raised in the U.S. and has traveled all her life. Half Brazilian, she is fluent in Portuguese and though she's a U.S. citizen, she's a Brazilian at heart. Heather and her business partner Marta Rabins are delighted to help our guests travel the world.

Sri Lanka Adventures
When Marco Polo first visited Sri Lanka in 1271 he declared it to be, "the finest island of its size in all the world." With its lush jungles, abundant wildlife, endless sandy beaches, and world famous spice and tea plantations, Sri Lanka is truly the pearl of the Indian Ocean. Its diminutive size is actually its greatest asset; there is so much in so little. It's easy to travel to an incredibly vast assortment of captivating activities. For sand and surf, Sri Lanka has over twenty dazzling white beaches and the opportunity to go whale watching, scuba diving, surf or snorkel. Ancient cities and temples abound with Sri Lanka boasting eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, many of which are more than 1,500 years old! Wildlife in Sri Lanka is nothing short of impressive: with more than 440 species of birds (33 of which are endemic to the island), the highest density of leopards in the world, the largest herd of wild elephants and so much more. Sri Lankan safaris and national parks are pleasantly relaxed and undeniably breathtaking. Wildland Adventures Program Manager Pam Perry will share her expertise gained from exploring the island to help you plan an unforgettable journey! Pam will end her presentation with a Q&A.

Walking England's Hadrian's Wall and Scotland
Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall were built over 1,800 years ago as defensive fortifications by the Romans stationed on the frontier of the empire. The more popular of the two, Hadrian's Wall, located in Northern England is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was built in AD 122, spans 117 kilometers (83miles) and can be followed on foot along the Hadrian's Wall Path. The trek along the old wall with its active archeological sites, museums, lively pubs, B&B's, and beautiful countryside has become popular as an adventure walker's destination. The Antonine wall, located in Scotland between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde represented the northernmost frontier fortification of the Roman Empire for only 20 years. It was built 20 years after Hadrian's Wall in AD 142 and spans 63 kilometers (39 miles). Unlike Hadrian's Wall, the ruins of the Antonine wall are much less evident. Learn the history of these walls, walking routes, places to stay along the way, what to pack, when to go and more! Training insights will be provided for this physical adventure, so that you don't just survive your journey, you THRIVE!

Norte Camino de Santiago Coastal Trek
Come discover the mystery of the Camino less traveled, the 500+ mile sojourn from Irun to Santiago along the picturesque northern coast of Spain that makes up the Camino Norte. Explore charming historical seaside towns, breathtaking coastal trails, white sandy beaches, and walks through fragrant Eucalyptus and Pine Tree forests as you experience this once in a lifetime trek.

The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is one of the historical Christian Pilgrimage routes from the Middle Ages. The most popular trail of the Camino de Santiago is the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago. This popular trail attracts thousands of people from around the globe with varying cultures, languages, and belief systems.

With the growing popularity of the Camino Frances, today's pilgrims are looking to branch out to less crowded trails that also lead to Santiago. This northernmost route was used throughout history when the Camino Frances was too dangerous to walk. Today it is one of many official routes to Santiago used by those who love the ocean and those who prefer a more intimate, less crowded journey. Come find out about the less traveled Camino Norte from Sheri Goodwin of Transformational Journeys and start planning your trip tonight. You will learn everything you need to know to be successful on this incredible adventure!
