Walking England's Historic Hadrian's Wall
Walking England's Historic Hadrian's Wall and Scotland's Antonine Wall

Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall were built over 1,800 years ago as defensive fortifications by the Romans stationed on the frontier of the empire. The more popular of the two, Hadrian's Wall, located in Northern England is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was built in AD 122, spans 117 kilometers (83miles) and can be followed on foot along the Hadrian's Wall Path. The trek along the old wall with its active archeological sites, museums, lively pubs, B&B's, and beautiful countryside has become popular as an adventure walker's destination. The Antonine wall, located in Scotland between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde represented the northernmost frontier fortification of the Roman Empire for only 20 years. It was built 20 years after Hadrian's Wall in AD 142 and spans 63 kilometers (39 miles). Unlike Hadrian's Wall, the ruins of the Antonine wall are much less evident.

Learn the history of these walls, walking routes, places to stay along the way, what to pack, when to go and more! Training insights will be provided for this physical adventure, so that you don't just survive your journey, you THRIVE!

Safaris Through Southern Africa
An Exploration of Namibia, Botswana, & Zambia

The first question you need to ask yourself when contemplating a safari in Africa is where to go. For most safari-goers it boils down to a question of East vs. Southern Africa. Southern Africa is host to some of the world's most unique places, for example, the Skeleton Coast and Namib Desert of Namibia, the Okavango Delta of Botswana, and Victoria Falls of Zambia/Zimbabwe. The gateway to southern Africa, South Africa, should also not be overlooked, particularly the Cape Town region. Join Erica Varga of Acappella Safaris for an exploration of southern Africa. Key features and areas of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia will be highlighted as well as best ways to combine travel among those countries. We will discuss changes that have transpired in southern Africa in recent years and touch upon conservation and community development efforts as related to the safari industry

Thailand: Temples, Elephants and Pad Thai. Oh, my
What do you think of when you hear someone say Thailand? Maybe your first thought is pad thai, maybe it is white sandy beaches or maybe glittering golden temples. Thailand is all of this and so much more. It not only boasts two coastlines, tropical jungles, but also bustling modern cities, ancient temples, and some of the best food you'll ever eat for under $5. Bangkok itself is a fascinating study of contrasts where climate controlled mega malls sit next to ancient temples. In Northern Thailand, you'll find rice paddies, tropical forests, and mountains rising into the sky. Hilltop temples watch over ancient cities where you can take a cooking class, ride bikes along the city walls or journey through the jungle with elephants. The South is home to a magical combination of jungle clad islands sitting in warm azure waters and surrounded by white sandy beaches and limestone cliffs that drop straight into the deep waters.

Wildland Adventure Southeast Program Director, Kelsey Wenger, will guide you through all that this fascinating country has to offer and conclude her presentation with a discussion about the ease of connecting Thailand to the rest of SE Asia. She will also give you a quick look at everything Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam have to offer.
