Wildland Adventures
Adventures in Morocco
Travel to Morocco on a all encompassing odyssey following ancient caravan routes of the Magreb. This program delves deep into the exotic culture and diverse landscapes from the walled Imperial Cities seemingly suspended in time, through scenic high-Atlas Mountain passes and cliff-clinging kasbahs, among remarkably well preserved Roman ruins, and riding camels through the shifting dunes of the mighty Sahara to our camp in the desert. Colorful and vibrant Marrakech and the medieval souks of the Fez medina are introductions to Morocco's rich culture of art and craft. What really makes a Morocco Wildland Adventure extraordinary are connections in local communities and the gregarious hospitality, flavorful cuisine and lavish Moorish-style of the boutique accommodations. Our in-depth exploration of the Magreb’s history and culture lifts the veil on a society balanced between an enchanting past and a vibrant role in the modern world.

Arts Craft and Culture

After a revelatory trip to Turkey in 2008, the lure of the Silk Road became irresistible for Edmonds traveler and textile addict, Dana Davies. Seeking a focus on arts and crafts, she spent three weeks traveling around Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in the fall of 2013 with an outstanding Australian-organized tour, Uzbekjourneys.com. In addition to artist workshops, studios, and marketplaces, the tour included exploration of the cultural, historical, archeological, and geographic wonders of these two quirky and compelling countries. Who knew Tashkent is laced with canals? That marijuana grows wild in the valleys of the aspiring democracy of Kyrgyzstan? That 200 years before Galileo, astronomy developed in what is now Uzbekistan? That something like polo can be played with the carcass of a headless goat? She will share photos, stories, and sample textiles to encourage you to take the plunge and visit this distant and often overlooked region.
